Making use of what is available

This week is a career guidance week at school.  There is a program at the school where students are encouraged to wear the of what they want to be when they grew up.  The nieces are confused about what they want to be because they have several in minds.  They want to become a nurse, want to take up computer related course, a teacher, flight attendant, and doctor.  They are in the middle of selecting the costume to wear.  My 11 years old niece is a bit picky, she makes sure that she will look good and her dress/costume will stand out.  While my 14 years old niece is confused about what she really wants.

Since they can’t decide yet, I give my unsolicited advice.haha!  I told them that since they do not have enough time and looking for another costume will cost a bit and no one will help them in doing it because their parents are both working.  Because to become a teacher is one of their choices, why not wear a school uniform of their aunt (my sister) who is a teacher.  My sister has lots of old school uniforms.  Instead of spending, why not make use of what is available.  I am glad that the nieces consider my suggestion.  And now they are wearing an old school uniform of their aunt.  To be picky is not applicable when you are running out of time and budget.  Good luck to the future teachers in the family.wink*

The teacher can’t do it alone

One of the jobs of being a teacher is checking test papers.  It is a never-ending job of a teacher I must say.  I can say this because the sister who is a teacher always find checking the test papers a difficult and frustrating job especially when the students did not follow instructions and did not able to give the right answer/s.  My sister indeed sad after seeing the scores of her students.  She is frustrated because only few passed the tests.  Somehow she blamed herself telling that she is not able to make them understand the lessons well.  But I have to comfort her by saying, she did a good job just that the students are not studying their lessons and maybe the parents did not make any follow-up when their kid/s got home from school.

Teachers are doing their job to teach their students (parents kids).  They put their voice at stake to make the students hear them well to understand the lessons.  However, these lessons will not sink on the kids mind 100% because their mind is playful.  That’s where the part of the parents came in.  Parents should do follow up when their children got home from school.  This is to make sure the kids will not forget the lessons they just have learned from school.  However, some parents are lazy to do that and some will not do that because of the thought that, the teacher can do it.  No the teacher can’t do it alone.  The teacher is in-charge at school, but the parents are in charge at home.  The parents should do their part to help their kids study their lessons at home.

It’s not easy to be a teacher

I have seen in the new about the teacher beating, hitting, slapping, spanking and many others to their students.  It is so sad to see that it has to be this way to discipline their students.  I know that the teachers sometimes didn’t mean to do it,  but there are circumstances that we are carried away by our emotions and anger.  Beating the kids/students is not a good act, but because we are only human we get carried away.  Our anger controls our emotions that is why we do things that we will regret it after.  This is what happens to some teachers at school.  Things that parents and guardians should give focus.

It is not easy to be a teacher.  They have to attend 40 to 50 students in one classroom even 60 in public school.  How can a teacher control the crowd especially the kids are very noisy and stubborn.  I am not saying the all students are stubborn, but some of them are.  Parents should also help in disciplining their kids/child.  They should also act as teacher inside their own home because the home is the first school.  The attitudes of students of today is not pleasant.  They don’t even know the word respect.  This is based on what I have noticed.  It is so sad to see this but students now are lack of respect.  Thing that the parents should work out.  To parents and guardians, know your kids/child very well and teach them the good values and to respect others as they want to be respected.

First complainant for this year

My sister is a teacher and she has taught for 10 years now.  She has met various of issues  like parents doesn’t like the way she teach, her hand-written, parents complaining about the grades of their kid/s, when she carried away and hit the child when the child is noisy, not listening and being bad to her/his classmates, and lots more.  This is the normal scenario of the teacher teaching in public schools.  A teacher handing more than 50 students is not easy.  If you were to picture it out, expect the worse.  Especially today that students/children sometimes does not know the word respect.  Pardon me for saying this but this is true.  I can compare the students before from today.  It is too different.  Some students now are war freak, stubborn, spoiled and bully.  Things that adds the burden to the teacher.  And when the teacher hit the child to give them lesson, parents do complain without look at how is the attitude of their child/kid.

I am sharing this because the sister had her first complainant this year.  The parents don’t like the sitting arrangement.  Her son is sitting at the back and she doesn’t like it.  To her sitting at the back is like telling he is not belong to the class.  Is that right?  Is the parent in the right place to complain?  Oh geezz… Sometimes parents are too difficult to understand.  The issue was settled now and I do hope no more complainant because the sister is pregnant and pregnant sometimes gets angry easily. haha!

Girl’s Talk: Teacher’s Pet

The topic for this month is so perfect because it is back to school here in the Philippines.  Since I am out of school, all I could do is to reminisce the time when I am still studying.  I am not a good student, just average because I am the silent type.  For this week’s topis Teacher’s Pet, I can think of only one teacher that help me develop my confidence and believing in myself.

This is Mrs. Cristina Pendor, the yearbook coordinator in college.  I am fortunate enough to be one of the yearbook staff.  For a year of being the staff, this teacher taught us many things about life, the beauty of life and believing in ourselves.  ” Do not waste food, finished what you have put on your plate because some are not eating and no foods to eat”, one of her teaching to us one day when we are having our lunch.  I always remember that line every time I am eating.  She is very strict but in a good way and in the way that would make us a better person.   Haven’t seen her for a decade now and I hope to see her again even if she doesn’t recognized me anymore.:-)
